Works
By TxOcelot
Bought this for an upcoming day camp for scouts, as a rest spot and shade in between events. I have to say it is larger than most if not all of this type sun shades I've looked over. We were easily able to set up 4 chairs with adults inside the shelter area, with room for gear pushed around the edges. With the center section at 6-6, this shelter can and does cast some shade in the afternoon, which is the point. Multiple zip up windows made it easy to let the winds through or block them. There are 4 sand pockets, which worked well with rocks too and the corners each have webbing with metal grommets for rods and stakes, though it will mean only using thin rod stakes, not thicker plastic, but that works better for my preferences. The bag it came with is nearly twice the size that is required, unlike most tent bags, that you have to fold it just right to get it back into the oem bag, this bag is made for something twice as large I think, yet a nice touch is they sewed the set up instruction sheet into the bag, so you can't lose it.
The support rods are very thick, the sleeves they slide through are not.... the fit is tight which makes tear down a lot more time consuming. Adding to the difficulty is that the rod ends are tapered slightly, so they do not fit in the metal couplers tightly, relaying on the friction cord inside to keep the rod together. This tapering really becomes a weakness when your trying to slide the poles out, and they come apart while in the sleeve, then pinch the material if your not careful while you try to put the rod back in its coupler. I'm going to get fancy and try some electrical tape on the rod end, to see if that will give some more friction and make it less prone to separating while in the sleeve.
Our shake down for it was this weekend, we took it to the lake and set it up in 25mph winds, and it took some effort by two of us to get the poles all in and the ties all set. But once it was up, it was solid, we put it facing into the wind, and with windows all open it stayed tight all day, but I didn't find any rips in seams or tears at any stress points, so shake down was a success. It didn't flop around or shift with the wind, once the lines and stakes were set, it didn't move all day. When one guide rope was cut by accident, it didn't start bobbing or swaying as some tents with flex poles will do, it was even noticed really.
Pros:
Rods are thick, and stout
taller than most shades
multiple windows
sand pockets
packs easy
Cons:
sleeves for the rods are to small, the fit is very tight
rod ends are tapered, so they do not fit in metal coupler well.
Over all I recommend it and have recommended it to friends, with some tinkering to make primarily the main pole more resistant to pulling appart when tearing down, this will be a very well and enjoyed piece of equipment to our camping and day activity list of gear that must go with us.

shade shelter
By Henry M Carrizosa
The sleeves that the rods fit into are to small, they should be bigger as it requires you to feed the rods through very carefully. All in all once set up it is a very stable portable shade!

listing/description all wrong
By Ric Kasnoff
Ordered a 12x6x6 according to the product details/description and got the 8x6x6
re-reading the Amazon page it's described as both...Customer service was great as usual but it's a waste of my time and very frustrating to have to bag it back up and return it...
Like all Paha Que products it seems very well made though the rod sleeves could be a touch bigger as it was a pain to get the rods out...
